After everyone in the immediate family had been notified of Fiona’s passing I put a notice on Facebook, the post simply said ‘my beautiful baby sister left the party too soon and nothing will ever be the same again’ then went on to thank everyone for their support. In doing this I hoped to alert my wider social circle thus avoiding {mostly} those awful moments when you bump into someone in the street who hasn’t heard.
But technology is a double-edged sword…
One evening only a couple of weeks later I sat down on the sofa, opened my laptop and gasped…my children looked round in anticipation, curious to know what had provoked such a reaction. When I explained that I had just received an email from Facebook to remind me that my sister’s birthday was approaching my daughter sadly shook her head and my son empathized having already received the same reminder, twice!
Nobody knew the password to Fiona’s Facebook account but that didn’t stop me from gaining access and closing it down before her birthday dawned and we were all reminded for a third time.
A couple of months went by and I started this blog, to begin with I showed it to no more than a handful of very close friends so not surprisingly the most visitors the blog ever got in a day was 5. My friends all loved it and were very positive and supportive but then they are my friends. The following week, late one evening, I picked up an email on my phone from WordPress informing me ‘Fiona loves your blog An Anthology of Angels….she thought Pay Attention This Is The Science Bit was awesome’.
I read it twice then went to bed.
The following morning I had forgotten all about it until I opened my laptop and there it was. Now clearly it wasn’t the same Fiona {or maybe the E in email stands for ethereal!} but the synchronicity blew me away and I decided that the time had come to go public with the blog.
Once again I turned to Facebook placing a link on my wall. Within moments traffic to my blog started to increase and I was astonished at the sheer number of visitors that day. Before I knew it I was getting emails informing me that bloggers from the USA, Romania, France and Australia were reading my blog and loving it!
So hello world. Thank you all so much for your feedback and a big huge massive thanks to Fiona from The Brain Gym Dublin for the kick-start!
